The New Benicia Ferry is a website providing a comprehensive listing of community services and activities available to all Benicians. Our mission is to connect you with all the good people and good things our town offers to build better lives and a stronger community.
Our Crew
Just a bunch of do gooders out to have some fun while providing a service to our community. Some of us have fond memories of the “Whole Earth Catalog” days, some of us have only lived in the 21st century. If the New Benicia Ferry tickles your fancy, contact us and we’ll find a way to welcome you aboard.
Is that a real ferry boat in our website feature image?
Yes and no. the image is the ghost of the M.V. Kalakala, a real ferry designed by the Boeing Aircraft Company in the 1930’s and a popular ride as it plied the waters of Washington’s Puget Sound for many years. the name “Kalakala” is based on a Chinook language word meaning “flying bird.” Sadly, the unique sleek, shiny curved hull with its art deco round portholes was scrapped in 2015. Childhood memories of this whimsical craft, I always thought it looked like a huge floating Airstream trailer, came to mind when visioning the New Benicia Ferry project.
